If you pass the guy in 2nd place are you in?

Decision making trap
The Confirming-Evidence Trap
This trap is the bias that leads us to seek out information to support our existing point of view while avoiding information that contradicts it.
The Framing Trap
How you make a decision is often determined by how you view your choices or how you frame the questions around it.
Frame As a Gain or As a Loss
People are risk averse and will look for reasons to turn down or avoid a decision where a loss, however small, is possible even if a larger chance exists for an upside gain.
Estimating and Forecasting Traps
    1. The Overconfidence Trap
We believe we are better at making forecasts or estimates than we actually are.
    1. The Prudence Trap
People are often overly cautious or prudent in forecasting..
    1. The Recallability Trap
Because we frequently base our predictions about the future on our memories of the past, we can be overly influenced by dramatic events those that leave a strong impression on us.

Anchoring trap
·       Un-chosen anchors: sexuality, religion, race, nationality, geography, history à influence our decisions

Sunken cost trap
·       Knowing when to cut your losses

Status quo trap
·       doing nothing IS a decision

“I've cut this board 4 times & it's still too short”

Epictetus - individuals are responsible for their own actions, which they can examine and control through rigorous self-discipline.  Suffering occurs from trying to control what is uncontrollable, or from neglecting what is within our power. Freedom's Just Another Name for Nothing Left to Loose

The last thing I'm going to loose is my fear.  It's a trade-off between fear and faith.  It's an inverse relationship.  As I increase my faith, my fear decreases.  It's going to take the rest of my life to loose all my fear.  As my faith increases, my freedom also increases. I can only loose my fear one-day-at-a-time.  At least I know it, and it's something to look forward to each day, as long as I can keep the faith.

Me & Bobby McGee – Janis Joplin

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train
And I's feeling nearly as faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
It rode us all the way to New Orleans.

I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna,
I was playing soft while Bobby sang the blues.
Windshield wipers slapping time, I was holding
Bobby's hand in mine,
We sang every song that driver knew.

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose,
Nothing don't mean nothing honey if it ain't free, now now.
And feeling good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues,
You know feeling good was good enough for me,
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

From the Kentucky coal mines to the California sun,
Hey, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul.
Through all kinds of weather, through everything we done,
Hey Bobby baby? kept me from the cold.

One day up near Salinas,I let him slip away,
He's looking for that home and I hope he finds it,
But I'd trade all of my tomorrows for just one yesterday
To be holding Bobby's body next to mine.

Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose,
Nothing, that's all that Bobby left me, yeah,
But feeling good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues,
Hey, feeling good was good enough for me, hmm hmm,
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

La la la, la la la la, la la la, la la la la
La la la la la Bobby McGee.
La la la la la, la la la la la
La la la la la, Bobby McGee, la.

La La la, la la la la la la,
La La la la la la la la la, ain`t no bumb on my bobby McGee yeah.
Na na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na na na na na
Hey now Bobby now, Bobby McGee, yeah.

Lord, I'm calling my lover, calling my man,
I said I'm calling my lover just the best I can,
C'mon, hey now Bobby yeah, hey now Bobby McGee, yeah,
Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lord
Hey, hey, hey, Bobby McGee, Lord!

Yeah! Whew!

Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lord
Hey, hey, hey, Bobby McGee.

Timothy M. Murphy
In Loving Memory

Husband of Marcella Tenorio Murphy, father of Chris, Chaz, and Bryce, grandfather of Logynn, Gabriella, Christian, Miquel and Devin. Also survived by mother Anitra Sampson Murphy, sister Rene and brother Kelly, a large loving family, and many many friends. Interment

Ft. Logan Cemetery Area B, 10:30 Fri. 1/18/13, Services following at Arbor House, 14600 W. 32nd Ave. Golden, CO.

Timm cut my hair.  He's been doing it for quite awhile...I'd say at least 7 years.  He was a Marine.  He served as a radio operator in Vietnam.  He got a less than honorable discharge, but I didn't learn that until recently.  It didn't matter.  He was vplunteering at the VA to help Vietnam era vets with drug and alcohol addiction.  He was in the program.  Timm was very proud of his service and it profoundly effected him...like most Marines.  His dad was a decorded veteran, a police officer, and proud of Timm.  I liked Timm alot.  We talked USMC and how screwed up the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are.  I'll miss him.
